It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the 2020 Biathlon has been postponed to 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Under the guidance of City of Alabama, Calhoun County, and State of Alabama officials, we have made the decision to move the 2020 race to May 2021. We are saddened by the fact that we will not get to see you this year, but the safety of all of our amazing runners—human and canine—is our greatest priority.
If you are still registered for the event, we will automatically move your registration to the 2021 event. Additionally, if you filled out the Biathlon deferment form on our website, we will move you to 2021. We will preserve everyone’s running day (Saturday or Sunday), wave, and team or individual status, so you will not need to take any action unless you are changing any of your registration details between now and next May. Our customer support team will be available during normal business hours by Facebook message or email at firstname.lastname@example.org to assist you.
Our plan for 2021 is to hold two events—the May event will stand in for the postponed 2020 event, and we will be handing out “2020 Finisher” medals at that race so our avid Biathloners can have a complete set. Our current plan is to have the official 2021 event later in the year in place of a “Rewind” event, and will have “2021 Finisher” medals, shirts, and prizes.
If you are a vendor or sponsor for the event, please check your inbox shortly for an email with additional information.
Lastly, we would like to extend our gratitude and offer an apology to everyone who was planning on attending the August race. We know so many of you build your entire year around the Biathlon. Attending the event requires requesting off work, making travel plans, booking hotels, and many more time-consuming arrangements. The Biathlon staff has spent countless hours designing medals, creating new obstacles, securing vendors, and planning the best race we could, so postponing the Biathlon has been disappointing news for everyone on our team as well.
However, we are confident that circumstances will change by May of next year, and we cannot wait to share a beer and a laugh with you at the finish line. We’re moving forward knowing this is not the end of the Biathlon, merely a temporary pause that will let us improve our course and make the event bigger and better in the future. In the meantime, we will be hosting more contests, virtual races, and other fun events on our social media, so please visit our Facebook page and subscribe to the Biathlon newsletter so we can keep in touch.
Once again, if you have any questions about how postponing the event will work, please contact us by email or Facebook message.
We’ll be seeing you soon,
The US Canine Biathlon Team
